Class information:
Year 6 is an exciting and important year as pupils prepare for the next stage of their learning journey. Working within the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum, children strive to achieve their end-of-year targets, with a focus on English Reading, Mathematics, Grammar and Writing. Alongside their preparation for SATs, the children continue to develop independence, resilience and a love of learning.
Our current class novel is Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. This inspiring story supports our work in reading, writing and discussion across the curriculum, encouraging pupils to explore themes of adventure, resilience and friendship.
Our Class Saint – Saint Catherine of Alexandria
Our class saint is Saint Catherine of Alexandria, chosen as a role model of courage, wisdom and faith. Catherine was a young scholar who used her intelligence and love of learning to defend her beliefs. She is remembered for her bravery in standing up for what was right, even in the face of great challenges, and for her mission to share knowledge with others.
In Year 6, we look to Saint Catherine as an example of perseverance, leadership and dedication; qualities that guide us in our learning and in the way we live out our faith.
Leadership in School
As the oldest children in school, Year 6 pupils take on a special role of responsibility. Each child is paired with a Reception pupil - their “seed” - whom they meet regularly to support and guide through their first year of school. This nurturing role allows Year 6 to grow as leaders and role models.
