Art and Design
At St Mary Magdalene's, we encourage children to explore, create and express themselves through a broad and inspiring Art & Design curriculum. Pupils develop their skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, collage and digital media while studying a diverse range of artists, designers and craftspeople from different cultures and time periods. Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to build knowledge and artistic techniques progressively from EYFS to Year 6.
Children learn to observe closely, experiment with materials, evaluate their work and develop their own creative ideas. Wherever possible, learning is linked to wider curriculum topics and enriched through the study of significant artists, including local, national and international figures.
Through Art & Design, we aim to foster creativity, imagination and confidence while helping children develop an appreciation of the rich diversity of artistic expression.
